Favorite Poem of Late - "The Road Not Taken" - By Robert Frost

Robert Frost (1874–1963)

The Road Not Taken

Road At Chantilly by Paul Cézanne
"Road at Chantilly" By Paul Cézanne

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Who's It Gonna Be?
Equal Opportunity Dem

If it's Barack - do you think he'd actually choose Hillary as his running mate? By many people's standards, she doesn't exactly fit his campaign's strong theme of change from establishment.

What do you think?

Do you think she'd accept his offer?

Love and Hate

Review of Scarlett Johansson's new single "Falling Down"
Cover of Tom Wait's song

Scarlett Johansson

Till now, I'd only heard Scarlett sing karaoke in one of my favorite movies of recent years, "Lost In Translation", and heard her murmur the word "change" in will.i.am's Obama-inspired ditty, "Yes, We Can".

I don't think it's preposterous to be somewhat suspicious of this gorgeous gal's vocal prowess, given how little I knew of her talent (or lack thereof), but, being the pop-culture obsessed woman that I am... I was curious to give her a chance. Hell, I even gave Paris Hilton a chance with "Stars Are Blind". I suspect that the record she will be releasing soon, Anywhere I Lay My Head, would not be simply bubble gum fluff, since nearly all of the songs on the record are cover of Waits' recordings. She had the audacity to take on Waits.

After playing the video a few times, I can safely say that "Falling Down" exemplifies my love/hate relationship with certain music, certain songs... While I consider her voice to sound strange and flat, and the arrangement of the instrumentation somewhat dragging and dull... I cannot deny that after a few listens - I love it enough to watch the video free on Yahoo! Music... (which is why I decided to give her a nod here in the blog - if I'd ultimately hated it entirely, I'd have avoided writing about it here).

The song has character, and Waits' brooding lyrics portray a condition many of us experience in life, where outward appearances often mask what is taking place inside... perhaps it's a credit to Waits' songwriting ability that even Scarlett's dull vocals are redeemed. Maybe it's David Bowie's backing vocals adding luster... I'm not exactly sure I can put my finger on what is so enjoyable about a song that just sounds so dragged through the mud.

But, the video is nothing but Hollywood fluff. Couldn't they have come up with something better than just a day in the life of Scarlett the starlet?

See "Falling Down" for yourself!
